I really like reading about other people’s setups. It gives me inspiration and odd pleasures. I thought I’d write about mine.
Computers §
Acer Aspire 3 A315-510P §
This is my only real computer - a $250 laptop with 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 8 core Intel i3-N305 mobile CPU. It runs Arch Linux, of course.
I rolled my own UEFI Secure Boot keys and am signing my Unified
Kernel Images with it, all using
sbctl
. It will not boot any
unsigned images.
Then, systemd-based initramfs, created by mkinitcpio
, will
unlock the encrypted disk using TPM, but only if Secure Boot is
enabled by UEFI.
Then my system user is automatically gets logged in on tty1
and
starts sway
which finally brings me the swaylock
screen
locker. When I input my password to swaylock, PAM uses this
password to also decrypt my SSH and GPG keys using
pam_exec-ssh
and
pam_exec-gpg
,
respectively.
Phone §
Nokia Lumia 630 §
My daily phone. I bought it second-hand for TRY 200 ($6). It runs Windows 10 Mobile, which doesn’t have any support anymore.
It’s a really cute phone and is still greatly useful for calls, SMS, offline music and podcasts, and even email if you really want to have it in your pocket.
TCL Onetouch 4022s §
It’s a dumb phone I used for a year or so. Then I got the Nokia Lumia 630 because it’s a pain to write SMS with these devices. Also, it sometimes made calls from my bag.
Asus Zenfone Go §
My old smartphone. It runs Android 6. Nowadays, I only use it for offline maps with Organic Maps while cycling.
Onyx Boox Note Air 3 B/W §
E-ink Android Tablet. It has an incredible battery life, especially after debloated1.
Spending years in front of glaring screens, nowadays I can’t tolerate looking at them, so I try to use this device as much as possible.
I use EinkBro for web, Syncthing-fork for synchronizing my documents and books, and Termux for literally everything.
Music §
I like intrumental jazz, lo-fi, and other kinds of chill music.
If I feel like to listen to something with lyrics then it’s usually Turkish alternative rock. I try to not to listen music with sad lyrics.
I don’t listen to music outside.
Guitar §
I play electric guitar since 2022.
Squier MM Strat §
My first electric guitar.
Orange Crush 35RT §
Really nice analogue guitar amplifier with built-in reverb, tuner and send/return loop.
Behringer Hellbabe HB01 §
A cheap optical wah pedal built like a tank. When I first got that pedal, I accidentally used a reversed polarity power supply for about 20 minutes, but it still works.
Headphones §
I don’t like wearing them actually. So I usually use them only when a new album from one of my favorite artists drops.
Sennheiser HD 300 §
Nice sounds but the cable isn’t detachable.
KB EAR KS2 §
A $20 chi-fi earphone with horrible treble. Definitely not for music. It looks cool though. I use it occasionally for listening to podcasts.
Everyday Carry §
Casio G-Shock DW-5750E §
The most important thing for a watch is that it shouldn’t make you hesitate about taking it off before doing anything. The G-Shock series can give you this. It’s not more expensive than a “smart” watch.
JanSport Big Student 17.5" §
It’s a durable and practical backpack. A little overkill for daily carry though. I’m looking to get a smaller bag for that.
It contains:
- A power supply for my Acer Aspire 3 A315-510P laptop so I don’t have to take off the one at home when traveling.
- KIOXIA TransMemory U366 64 GB Metal Flash Disk: Because you never know when to install Arch Linux on someone’s computer.
- A small notepad and a few pens.
- A pack of almonds, usually.
Desk §
Monitor §
I use a 24" 75 Hz Samsung monitor. I like working with a single
display so I use kanshi
to disable the internal one when I plug
in the HDMI.
I place my monitor in front of my window so I can get some natural light as well. I sit away from it about 2 meters and use huge fonts. I can barely get 80 columns on my terminal. :)
